Antique tool

Antique tools are valued by many collectors as a classic category of antiques. These collectors feel that an antique tool of good quality and condition rarely depreciates. It is not unusual to find old tools that are far superior to those made today. Hobbyists and professional craftspeople are often found among collectors as many of them prefer using the tools of yesteryear in their work. The quality of a tool is also important to collectors that do not have any interest in using their finds. These collectors appreciate the quality of the tool from an aesthetic viewpoint as they scour antique stores, garage sales and flea markets.

The study of antique tools provides a glimpse of human development and cultural preferences through history. People collect and use antique tools for a variety of reasons some say they are better made than modern tools, and perform their jobs better. Others appreciate the handcrafting that went into their manufacture or their rarity or aesthetic value.

They have a special significance to human society - tools are one of the primary means by which we distinguish ourselves from other animals. Tools are the father of all other antiques. Master paintings, the great statues, the finest pottery, the most decorative furniture, the most colorful tapestries all of these would have been nothing more than someone's fleeting idea without the tools needed to create them. Every man made object depended on the use of tools for its existence, and mankind's greatest intelligence is reserved for the creation of ever newer and better tools to solve the production problems of the day.
