This desk broke the first day it was in my house! The drawer is actually supposed to pull out (for a computer keyboard, presumably) -- the drawer face is supposed to rotate out 45 degrees to lay parallel to the drawer's bottom. Upon receiving the desk, however, I couldn't get the drawer to open -- until the whole desk face CAME OFF in my hand. Wouldn't purchase it again, or recommend it to anyone.

I had (3) of these units delivered as each one was broken in transit. Finally AMAZON declared the unit non-deliverable. Looks good but badly constructed. Scared to place anything on the desk as the desk looked like it would collapse.

My children joke about this lamp after my husband told them that it was "hundreds of dollars." You won't laugh at this though. It is high quality, child proof, knock-over proof (so far), and makes a great reading lamp. This is also recommended to treat seasonal depression for the winter blues in gloomy weather. The only downfall is that you can't count on this to light up a room. There is actually kind of a haze created above the lamp. No problem when sitting under it.

The light is very pleasing and a nice feature is the adjustability of the light intensity -- 3 settings. The lamp is larger than I expected but works on my desk. The adjustment arms not easy to change -- have to stand up and do it because easier to manage. The light itself easily tilted to side. Working well for me.

I would have given it 5 stars if it had an opening somewhere so that the connection from the back of my computer dropped right in to the pull out draw for the keyboard so that it would be hidden. Three weeks after I ordered this lamp, it arrived at my house with the glass shade broken. After talking to three different people on the invoice, they agreed to send me a replacement shade. Two weeks later that arrived--broken! I took a picture, and they agreed to send me another one. That one arrived intact (again, two weeks later), but it is almost impossible to get a new shade on, as you have to flex the metal without breaking the glass. As I was trying to perform this task, under the pressure of the metal, the glass shade BROKE! They can keep their money-- I'm not wasting any more time with them.

I ordered this desk as a classy place to scrapbook in our bedroom (it replaced a well used folding card table). The desktop has a large beautiful surface to work. It arrived damaged three days later (it appeared that someone with big work boots had walked all over the outside of the box). I contacted Target online and they sent me a new perfect one 3 days later. They also sent UPS to pick up the damaged one from my front porch within the week at no cost to me. It is a big heavy beautiful piece of furniture. I thought the price was a lot to ship it until I saw what a great job with customer service Target did.

The bad news first. You should be aware that it is largely made of plywood. The top in particular looks cheap. The finish was done poorly...there are places where it's lighter and kind of bubbling. Maybe that's what they mean by "distressed" walnut finish. The finish is not what I'd call distressed. I would also agree with another reviewer that the finish has more of a reddish tint to it than is evident in the picture. Perhaps the black desk looks nicer?

That said, it has a wonderful large work surface, which is exactly what I was looking for. It is also very sturdy, not some piece of junk that will be at the curb in a few years. It was easy to put together. I also love the shelves. I think they will be more functional than drawers (lots of room). Also, now I don't have to worry about cheap drawers falling apart (which happened on the last desk I had, even though the wood looked nicer than the wood on this one). I didn't buy the matching ladder shelf, but I'm seriously considering it. I'm sure it is very similar to the shelves on this desk, which are very sturdy and look nicer than the desktop.

For the money, you can't beat it.
