Artwork is no more than homage, a highly derivative collection of earnest parodies. In all the arts there is a physical component which can no longer be considered or treated as it used to be, which cannot remain unaffected by our modern knowledge and power. It is an artwork that radiates wall-power with its brilliant color and dramatic brushstrokes. It narrates one of the most impressive artistic relationships of the 20th Century between two titans of British art and is desirably fresh to the market having remained in the same collection for almost half a century.
It encapsulates a genre, an era, a time when this style of music was fresh, new and innovative. The Greeks knew only two procedures of technically reproducing works of art: founding and stamping. Bronzes, terra cottas, and coins were the only art works which they could produce in quantity.
The arts develop skills and habits of mind that are important for workers in the new economy of ideas. Participation in the arts is known to increase student performance in other academic subjects, including math, reading, writing, and science. The authenticity of a thing is the essence of all that is transmissible from its beginning, ranging from its substantive duration to its testimony to the history which it has experienced.
Since the historical testimony rests on the authenticity, the former, too, is jeopardized by reproduction when substantive duration ceases to matter. And what is really jeopardized when the historical testimony is affected is the authority of the object.
